Or you get a RAID 1 system, much easier.

For example if you have 4 HDD's, you get 3 backups of your first HDD in RAID 1.

4 HDDs in Raid 1 is stupid. Also you can do "real" backups on another HDD if you have 4 of them...
RAID is meant for redundancy and speed, it's not a backup.
There used to be a signature here.
